Handlng in excess of 42 million tonnes of cargo annually and widely recognised as the capital of the country’s cruise industry, Southampton is one of the UK’s busiest and most important ports. Its natural deep-water harbour, unique double tide and sophisticated Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) allows the port to welcome the world’s largest vessels, from deep-sea container ships to cruise giants.

MAD pan and tilt heads have been used by Southampton’s VTS within the port and around the Solent for years and a result of their performance in the harsh marine environment it was decided that all marine replacement units would be sourced from MAD.

Responsible for electronics and comms. procurement for Southampton’s VTS, Associated British Ports Neil Douglas says “We chose MAD’s Panama integrated domes for the main sites within the docks for their ease of installation and maintenance. At other sites we use heavy duty 360° rotation Topper pan and tilts with Mitre weatherproof housings. As with all MAD products, they are well engineered and are proving very durable.

During installation and commissioning MAD worked closely with us and other suppliers to ensure seamless, trouble free integration with our existing systems.”
